For nearly 54 years, Cookson Hills Christian Ministry has been providing a Christian home and a Christ-centered education to children who need out-of-home placement. Full-time house parents model the Christian family lifestyle to the placed children. The children become part of a family and community dedicated to introducing them to Christ. The goal of the home is to break the destructive cycle of abuse, neglect, rebellion, and failure that have characterized many of the children’s lives. With ten residential and ten Foster Care Homes available on campus, family style care is offered for up to 120 children.

In Cookson’s K-12 education system, the teachers and house parents work together in small classes to help students overcome learning deficits and excel academically. Other programs and services include Christian counseling, the 4-Him program, on-campus summer jobs for high school juniors and seniors, and the opportunity for missions trips and service projects. The Family Training Academy also offers parenting skills in preparation of a placed child’s return home.

Pray for the house parents, teachers and support staff, as well as continued financial resources for the many special projects and school supply needs. And, of course, pray for the children and their growth in Christ.

The Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a ministry committed to sharing the gospel and meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the homeless and poor in our community.

"Come to me all you who are weary and burdened,

and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:27)

For 64 years, Union Rescue Mission has been open each day to serve the poor and homeless. They provide around 150 homeless men a bed and meal each night. The people of Riverlawn help serve meals the first & third Friday of each month.

Union Rescue Mission also has a nightly chapel service led by pastors and lay-leaders with a message of salvation and hope in Christ. This message has been shared roughly 23,360 times in the last 64 years. The pastors of Riverlawn have taken a personal interest in URM by doing the chapel service every other month.

Over the last ten years, URM has had over 120 homeless men complete the New Beginnings Program. This is a one-year, Biblically-based, life-changing program, designed specifically for URM. It helps these men to not only understand and address the causes of their homelessness, but also learn how to finally walk away from their drug/alcohol/sexual addictions, and return to society as self-sufficient citizens.

Pray for the staff and volunteers as they serve and care for the poor and homeless in the Wichita community. Pray for lives to continue to change physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Pray for an outpouring of God's blessing for each individual who receives help from this ministry.

When the city of Independence fought to annex its schools from the Kansas City Missouri school district, its vision was to create neighborhood centers of hope.  These centers would be a place of celebration, learning, and healing.  A place where families could both entrust their children and also receive resources for the whole family. Revive Church is continuing that hope by partnering with Van Horn High School.  They aim to join the effort in meeting physical, emotional, and spiritual needs by offering Christ’s presence to Independence and being a partner to the community.

Youth Horizons exists because God has a heart for the fatherless. Their mission is to empower at-risk children and their families to become healthy members of the community and to create a nationwide awareness of the needs of at-risk youth. This is carried out through two primary services: residential and mentoring.

When a child lives in a disruptive and destructive home environment, an alternate place of residence becomes necessary. The Kinloch Price Boys Ranch provides a stable Christian home for boys needing to be removed from adverse living conditions. The highest priority of the program is to empower each boy to grow in his own healthy way. The Ranch is able to serve 14 boys ages 10-18 at the facility.

In the community-based mentoring program, children from age 5 to 14 are matched with a positive Christian role model. Through this mentoring relationship, the at-risk child (called a protégé) is provided with a committed friend who creates opportunities for fun and growth. Youth Horizons also offers a school-based mentoring program where mentors spend time at their protégé’s school each week and often help with learning and schoolwork.

Youth Horizons currently serves more than 160 children and their families in the Wichita area.

Pray for the Board of Directors, President Earnest Alexander, Executive Director Rodney Bartlett, and the entire Youth Horizons staff as they serve. Pray they would have continued wisdom and compassion. Pray also for a lasting impact to be made in the love of each mentor, protégé, and their families.
